Monday Motivation: Confidence To Do Anything

Today I have a quote for you that was sent to me by my friends at Be Motivated Today and my own little anecdote:

“With confidence, you can reach truly amazing heights; without confidence – even the simplest accomplishments are beyond your grasp.” – Jim Loehr

I can tell you from experience as an athlete that this is so true….

Yesterday I competed in a masters weightlifting contest. It was my first contest in 2 years and I was a little nervous about coming back to competition. But I also had confidence that I could do it. I was able to break the American Master record for my weightclass and age group. Actually every lift I made was a new record. I made 2 out of 3 snatches and 2 out of 3 clean & jerks and attempted more on my third attempt than I planned. I had enough confidence to make the lifts that I new I could do, but not quite enough confidence to make the ones that I wasn’t sure about.

Why did lack the confidence to make those final lifts? Perhaps because I didn’t think that I was in good enough shape yet. My coach had the confidence in me that I could do it, but I lacked enough confidence in myself to follow through.

So what is holding you back from doing what you know you can do. Find out what it is and work on it. In my case I need to work out and train more consistently so that I know that I’m in shape when it comes to perform. What about you? Are you avoiding investing in tax liens because you don’t know enough? Find out what it is you need to learn? Take a course, go to a seminar, and observe a tax sale. Then take the first step.

I could have just not entered the competition until I felt I was more ready and in better shape, but then I would not have set new American Masters records. I would not have gained the confidence that I can do this, and I can even do it better next time. Yes I made some mistakes. I rushed my last snatch and made some technical errors in my form that cost me the lift. But I can come back and do better next time. Everything has a learning curve, and the best way to learn how to do it is to jump in and do it!

Be All You Can Be,

Joanne
